White pixels around Gifs

I’m trying to add some Gif graphics to a web page that has a rather complex background . . . the images all contain transparent areas that seem to look just fine in Photoshop (CS) but on the web page they all have a thin, white border of pixels around them . . . I’ve tried just about every dither scheme imaginable but I still get the white border around the Gifs.

Is there some way I can avoid this?

Philip,

What you are seeing is the edges being anti-aliased to a default white. By selecting a matte colour similar to your web b/ground colour when creating the gif via Save for Web it will become a lot less noticeable or even invisible.
