the norted protected trash bin has been a problem since at least photoshop 6 days. that more than the partition size solved his problem, imo.

Agreed and it does help, except I had the protected trash bin all along and noticed the performance drop after changing the scratch size and noted the jump back up BEFORE I removed the Norton protection.
