I have a Samsung Syncmaster 1100p CRT monitor, which I have been using for some time since new, but I now thinking of getting a new monitor. I wondered what (if any) LCD monitors could do the job right.
I live in the UK and was thinking of spending between £500 to £600.
My CRT was on it’s last leg, so I needed a new monitor, and since the LCD prices are lower,
and the client’s deposit on a new project covered the cost, I went for it.
I just got a Viewsonic VP201s- a 20" LCD after considerable research. My primary
concern was the *true* viewing angles, or color shifting when the monitor is tilted.
Secondary were manuverability (ergonomically friendly) and other various features.
(Note: The pivoting screen feature on a lot of LCD monitors does not work in OS X.)
By actually viewing them in stores, tilting & leaning I decided on the VP201s becasuse
it displayed the least if any color sifting at extreme angles, and Viewsonic’s reputaion for use
in graphics . I found almost all 17", and most of the 19" LCDs displayed noticable shifting.
Thus the extra, albeit painful, $400.
Now comes the calibration. OSX Colorsync doesnt seem to be cutting it, and I have
tried SuperCal. But I’m still not convinced I have it calibrated properly.
I was considering purchasing PowerRipX for postscript emulation and proof quality output from
my Epson 1520, but now I am thinking I need to getting this LCD colorimeter and print calibration bundle instead

Ooops- I just read the rest of your post- sorry- I’m in California. Hope this helps anyway.
