Is there a way of creating a swatch solely containing the colours in the current open psd file?

Sometimes I forget to add colours to the swatch as I go, but to be able to click a button and have a swatch created for me would be a joy – any clues?

Thanks 🙂

Go to Image>Mode and change to Indexed Color> Then go to Image>Mode>Color Table. Save the table as an ACT file. Then in Swatches use Replace from the flyout arrow and load the ACT file. When the swatches appear save that as an ACO file from the flyout.

A little involved but I haven’t found a better way.

Oooo, I just discovered how to do this in CS2 (don’t know if this works in prior versions)
[this seems like allot to do to get a swatch so I may not be doing it the easy way nor even the right way but this is what I found while playing around one day]

Open image, change to indexed color:
Palette: Local (Perceptual)
Colors: 256 or 128 or whatever
Forced: None
Transparency box not checked
Options:
Dither: None

Then Mode/Color Table… Your color palette for that image will show up in custom…

Click on SAVE…
Save your palette with the act extension… I had to browse to find my photoshop color swatch folder…

Then, go to your swatch box and click on "Replace Swatches"… Then change the .aco to .act and choose the swatch you just made…

Then save as an .aco swatch…

You can only save up to 256 colors which doesn’t seem very good unless you are only doing the image for the web… So, I must be missing something which I’m sure someone more experienced will set me (and everyone else) down the right path…
🙂

Also, I only found a way to do this in indexed color, couldn’t do it in RGB…

Strangely enough, if I remember correctly, in version 4 all you had to do was switch to Indexed and there it was. But it’s "progressed".

Neat! Hadn’t needed it, as I recall, but great to know about it, should I require it.

Thanks,

Try recording it as an action. Then assign a F key to it for one button access.
