I am new to this program and need to use a bitmap shape cut out of the background. Can someone walk me through the steps to cut it out, save it and place on my AI background? Also I tried the magic eraser but got lots of "see through". What is the best way? And what is the difference between "clipping mask" and using the transparency. I am going to make a large digital print from the file.
Thanks for your patience. I have printed out & read numerous help sheets but still not clear to me and time is getting away from me.

Mary,

A transparent B/g .PSD can be placed into Illustrator and retain the transparency (Illustrator 9 or later).

To delete part of an image to transparent, rename the layer to something other than ‘Background’, select the area using any combination of the various Selection tools, and hit the delete key
