Correcting Redeye with Photoshop 7.0

Actually, you do not need to pick up eye color at all. Red eye is caused by light falling into the pupils, reflecting on blood vessels inside the eye. Your pupils are not colored, they are simply wholes and so they should be black or close to black. The color of your eyes is in the area around the pupils, which should not become red at all.

I have been most impressed with the ease of correcting most red eye by using iPhoto’s (Macintosh) red eye edit feature and IrfanView’s (Windows) red eye edit feature.

Both programs allow drawing a rectangle over one or two eyes and clicking with mouse. Simple yet effective switch from red eye to something close to black.

The "red eye" is actually a red pupil only. Pupils should be black, because they are nothing but a hole (a gap, an opening). They do not have any color. So to correct red eyes, you have to turn that red into black. The eye color of the person has nothing to do with it, because eye color is in the area around the pupil, not in the pupil itself.

The red eye I’m taling about makes the entire eye red – the pupil and the coloring around the eye…

Use your transparency palette to adjust the tones of your greens, quite often enough, you will get a more accurate colour anyway, nothing looks worse than when a red component of (red eye) is replaced with a solid colour….kinda makes the eyes look unnatural and spooky……..

I agree, iPhoto’s red eye removal is great. Does anyone know what algorithm iPhoto uses? Does it just desaturate some range of reds?
