Yes.. I actually went and bought a mac pro. Too good a piece of hardware to resist… But when will Elements 5 be out on the Mac?

Well, if they haven’t done it by now they might not do it ever. Did Adobe ever say there would be a version for the Mac?

Excellent point… And I shouldn’t presume that Elements 4 for Mac is somehow "behind" Elements 5 for Windows…

No you shouldn’t assume that because there is a 4.01 for the Mac that there will be a 5.0 for the Mac.

I asked Adobe about this last Friday and they said they have nothing planned.

But it is. I have both and the Windows version (even in 4.0) has a better organizer than the Mac (which has clunky Bridge).

I, and many others, used the Elements Organizer to catalog photos even with PS CS2.

You can blame Apple for any problems. With Apple seamily to enjoy bundling software with the computer that hogs the market share for other programs companies like Adobe are a lot less included to both with a Mac version of a program that is going to have little overall impact.

I find it very interesting that Apple can bundle whatever they want with their OS, have a total hardware monopoly with the Mac platform and get away with it. Yet Microsoft gets a new poo hole chewed when they try to do the same.

At least however, the Mac is catching up with Windows and the PC in one area. Apple has been releasing dozens of fixes and patches for security. It looks like the perfect Mac is no more. I also find it interesting that this seemed to happen at about the same time as the move to Intel processors. I wonder if the two could be releated and part of the problem on the PC side of it too?

When Apple has an >80% market share I’m sure that will happen to them, too.

Well, you’re allowed a monopoly if you get it by luck or skill.

They didn’t do anything anticompetitive they were just the first ones out there in a large scale and arguably they made the best product.

I have to disagree about Apple getting it by luck or skill. In many ways Apple is forcing customers in to things that are just as user unfriendly as what Microsoft did. Sure they are doing for different things Hardware instead of OS, but still just as ugly.

Yah, but that isn’t anti-trust that is a bad choice in batteries. The one good thing Apple has done is it looks like they may finally be the ones to force the music studios to dump DRM. That would be a good thing. But, doesn’t change the fact that Apple is every bit the monopoly that Microsoft is and in some ways like the market share with the iPod more so.

None of those things imply anti-competitive practices.

The idea, by Apple, was masterful. Marketing the ipod was exemplary. The product is far more expensive and unrelaible than many competitors.

a short run strategy as you may alienate longtime brand loyalists>>>users who expect best quality for the higher prices

I don’t know about you but there are certain brands I will absolutely never purchase after having negative experiences (Iomega) and I am loyal to Epson because I found them responsive in repair situations.
I was not addressing the anti trust situation MS vs. Apple I find all these "my computer OS is better than yours" "Mac sucks, no MSoft sucks" to be tedious conversations

My list includes Iomega as well, but Epson makes it too. Their support told me to simply throw away my clogged head printer.

My MP3 player cost about 1/4 of an Ipod Nano of the same capacity. It also has an FM tuner, can be used as a digital recorder, and uses a single AA battery. Ipod is a form over function triumph.

Well, if you go for the cheap Epson’s it is often cheaper to toss and buy new if something happens like a clogged head you can’t get cleaned out. Sometimes it is even cheaper to toss the printer and buy a new one when it runs out of ink. There is most definitely something wrong with this and one a large number of levels.

As for the iPod, it can’t be beat. Why? Because like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dreamweaer it has massive amounts of third party support. Good luck finding another music player that has a decent selection of third party accessories, books and what not. Like it or not this is important as it allows you to get the most from the iPod. SanDisk is a very distant second, but their software, music store and other such things really suck. I had one and tossed it for the iPod. My iPod I use while jogging, at home connected to my TV for training videos, TV shows, etc. I connect it to my home stereo for music and I use it in my car. With 30GB’s of music you can’t come close with anything else and most of that is because of third party options that allows you to use your iPod nearly anyplace you want it.

This doesn’t of course mean I like Apple. No Apple is just as big a monopoly in something’s as Microsoft, just as greedy and just as self oriented. Apple is more like Microsoft’s little sister than most Apple lovers will admit, but that doesn’t change the facts.

I am having a hard time understanding the idea behind their (Apple computers) current ad campaign.

maybe they are trying to hold their core audience by defining themselves as the mop headed slim hipster guy? cooler and superior to
the PC users portrayed by a dumpy confused middle aged nerd.

is that a way to get new users? I don’t think so
this PC user will not be convinced to go Apple by being made fun of so it must be to make their own users feel superior, like snobby fashionistas

I always admired the style of Apple machines but this commercial really turns me off to trying any of their products

I am amazed at how much bull is in those ads. But, then Apple has to try something now that they are using Intel processors and have computer capable of running Windows and given that after the move to Intel processors their systems have had a major amount of bug and security fixes released. Apple more than anytime in its history is more like a PC and Windows. So they have to lie and stretch the truth otherwise the reasons for going Mac are about half of what they were.
