Hey there,
I really like worth1000.com.
http://www.worth1000.com
Is there a similar site to worth1000.com that anyone can recommend? It doesn’t have to have any sort of reward. Just a place that offers similar options as worth1000.com.

Cheers,

My personal favorite is http://retouchpro.com

Their focus is more on photo restoration, retouch and manipulation. They have many challenges to do, tutorials, a ton of information, but most important, many, many amazingly talented helpful people.

Enjoy!

Hey, cheers for that. I’d already checked out retouchpro.com but had forgotten about it.
Actually, if there’s any other sites that you think may be use to an experienced beginner (i.e. muck around a lot, learned quite a bit but, by no means a professional) then please, feel free to share. One of my favorite sites is myjanee.com
http:myjanee.com
It was an absolute inspiration when I had the opportunity to use photoshop for the first time. Prior to that I was using zonerdraw. Which, for a home user, is a lot of fun and quite simple but not quite enough for me. Different thing in many ways but I’m getting off track. I still refer to myjanee.com quite regularly and send many of my friends to it but there’s many areas it doesn’t cover. Not that I’m criticising because I appreciate the hard work and generosity of so many of these sites.

Any other suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

I stopped entering the contests on Worth1000 because I felt the quality of submissions was falling quite dramatically.
I was horrified when the worst, most amateurish, non-realistic chops were winning the competitions.
In their defence, the admins have always said that a good idea or concept is as important as the execution of it. But lately, it seems that no-one there cares a jot about technique or photo-realism, and images with mis-matched lighting and shadows, roughly masked cutouts, pixelised edges, etc etc were winning all the gold medals.

Worth died when they rolled out their karma system which ensured that if your opinion differed to any large extent your vote weighed less. Vote like everyone else or your vote doesn’t count. They also suffered from popularity syndrome. For a couple years new people came and went but in small numbers. Then the word got out and new, bad, Photochoppers came crawling out of the woodwork. Another problem they suffered from was their Judge system. Few new judged were added no old judges were ever rotated out of the system. Cliques were formed, popularity and friendship started having more weight that skill and presentation. It was a sad thing.

Hey, cheers to everyone’s input. As a "newbie" to worth1000, I’m quite impressed. I do have a couple of criticisms. One being the short period of time to complete a competition – specifically with regard to the beginners section. Also, I’m struggling to find how they define a beginner.
Secondly, and this refers to your criticism, FS, that some people enter the most outrageously bad work, and it isn’t disqualified.

I know I should take up these issues with the website itself but I’m interested in how people outside the site feel about it. Also, if anyone wants to share their favorite sites, of this sort and tutorial sites, I’d really appreciate it. Yes, before anyone knee-jerks "google" (there are other search engines, BTW – dogpile.com, for example) I have searched. I’m just interested in other people’s favorites. Myjanee.com was one of the first one’s I ever used and I still like it a lot but it’s looking a bit tired. Good-tutorials.com has daily updates which is always good.

Thanks for the feedback.
