Out of nowhere was having problems with CS crashing, not loading, just sporadic. I did not install anything new, matter of fact had used it early that day with no problems. Not finding any answers, I decided to try to just uninstall and then re-install it. Well…been sitting here all day with absolutely no luck. I uninstalled using the c/panel. Cleaned out the temp files, tried installing in safe mode, everything I’ve read from the forum. But no luck. I click the setup.exe file and it starts the install screen and I just barely get a glimps of what looks like text saying that CS is already on this system, but that’s all I can see before the screen goes back to my normal desktop. No error messages at all. Have a Monday morning deadline and of couse no tech support on the weekend for us working stiffs. Any help would mean the world, Thanks!
Do have the SP2 for XP running, never had a problem running CS at all. Everything else I’ve used today is still working normally also.

Try copying the installer to your harddrive and installing from there.

Thanks Bob, I’m assuming you mean copying the PS folder to the desktop and installing from there. If I’m understanding you correctly, I just tried that and no success. I also tried that in safe mode according to a fix Adobe mentioned but of course that didn’t work either. It looks like the install ‘thinks’ there is still a copy of CS on the system. But why won’t it just over write it? I can’t find anything that might be hanging it up, but then I’m not about to dig into the registry without decent support.

You don’t mention deleting the prefs, but I will assume that you tried this. And that an uninstall will not work.

Can you get to the part of the install where you select the folder to install to? If so, maybe choosing another folder will work.

Don,
I went in manually and deleted anything to do with Adobe and still no luck. And no…I don’t get far enough into the install to pick/choose anything. Sometimes I get far enough to get what looks like it says CS is previously installed blah blah… and I see a next button and tried to hit enter quick, but I get nowhere.
Thanks,
Steve

I had a somewhat similar problem. It sounds like when you are uninstalling CS, some files are remaining on the drive, thus when you try the reinstall it’s seeing those ‘ghost’ files and thinking you have the entire program already on your drive.

What I finally did was first go through control panel and remove CS that way/reboot. Next I went into the drive where I had it originally. In my case C, then checked programs and found the adobe file and partial cs files. I deleted both the contents of, and the folder itself and rebooted. Next I did a clean install, that required reactivating the program.

If this and everything else fails I’d suggest calling Adobe and seeing if they’re aware of any problems inherient in XP Service Pack2.

Hope it helps
