Hello everyone,

I recently installed PhotoShop CS2 on my puter and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions where I could find some beginning tutorials? I have used Print Shop Pro for several years but I think I am ready for something more powerful. Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

Karen

There are quite a few if you do a search. One of the more fun sets of tutorials is at www.myjanee.com .

Karen;

Like you, I’m trying to learn Photoshop more or less from scratch.

The problem we face is that the tutorials I’ve seen focus on solving specific problems instead of focusing on Photoshop basics. If you wanted to take up carpentry, I think you would first buy some basic tools and learn how to use them. Only after you have acquired skills with each tool would you attempt to create a beautiful piece of furniture.

I think it’s the same with Photoshop. Your first effort should be to become familiar with most of what Photoshop has to offer. I’m in the process of doing that now. I’m experimenting with each of the tools, filters, etc, to gain an understanding of what each can do. I often run into problems; sometimes I find answers in Photoshop’s help. Other times I search in some of the Photoshop books I have, ask a question in this newsgroup, or use Google or another search engine.. One way or another, I usually get information or hints that lead me to a solution to my problems.

I suggest that, instead of looking for tutorials, you just start exploring Photoshop with the objective of learning what it can do. After you’re comfortable with most of the Phoptoshop’s capabilities, you’ll be ready to work magic with your photographs.

Learning Photoshop is not a few-hours project. I’ve been at it now, three or four hours a day, for the last eight weeks. I figure I’m about half way towards becoming a somewhat proficient Photoshop user.

Best of luck.

I learned the way you suggested- open each tool and filter and TRY IT you discover many things and at least get an idea of what is available plus you may make a creative artwork sometimes by accident~!~ and the accident technique may become part of your arsenal

without basics you cannot follow the tutorials, most assume at least rudimentary skills
each tool has so many options
many I never needed, some I learned I needed later on (brush and pen)

I have used PS since 1996!!!!! and still learn new ways to do things all the time
and things to do with it I never thought of
and with each upgrade the changes and new options and tools

If you consider yourself an artist you will realize your work is never over there is always room to grow and learn

PS has tools most darkroom techs and photographers would like (curves, dodge burn spotting by clone or healer, color correction tools) BUT also some many creative tools that will appeal to artists-filters, distortions, perspective, silhouette (masks) collage etc

you can use very few just simple adjustments for a photo or go CRAZY and completely change it
some people use it without photos at all!~!
