I have been using the shadow/highlights adjustment to bring out the detail in some of my lighter colored subjects (for example, a white cat.

Everytime I choose shadow/highlights, it opens a dialog box and automatically sets the shadow for 50%. I almost always set this to 0 and use only the highlight slider. Is there some way to set this to open with both sliders set to 0? It gets really annoying to have to change this every single time when I don’t even want to adjust that one.

Check the "Show More Options" box at the bottom of the Shadows/Highlights dialog box. Change your settings to 0%, then click the Save as Defaults button at the bottom of the expanded dialog box.
