Issues when installing CS2

I have just installed CS2 on my Windows XP Pro (SP2) system. It raises some questions:

1. By default it installs into a separate Adobe\Photoshop CS2\ folder. I have temporarily left CS1 in its folder (just in case). If I now uninstall CS1 using the Add/Remove function in Control Panel, will it remove any files in other folders (e.g. \system 32\) that CS2 shares?

2. Over time, when using CS1, I have created quite a few personalised settings. They include Preferences, Desktop Workspaces, Actions, Droplets, etc. Do I have to re-create these each time I upgrade Photoshop?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Paul.

Just say No to remove shared files.

Preferences – Yes
Actions – mostly not
Workspaces – not sure, but as UI has changes I expect so Droplets – Advisable to do so

Thanks, Len. Any idea where I’d find the files that store the Actions? I can only find the default ones, but not the ones I created myself.

You have to actually save them first using the option in the fly-out menu.

Don’t uninstall CS until you’ve done this or they’ll be gone forever!

Personally I wouldn’t uninstall CS at all. It won’t do any harm sitting there quietly all by itself. But it would be really handy to have if something went wrong with your CS2 and you were in a hurry.

You’re right, Chris. I hadn’t saved them. I can’t believe I was so stupid. Given that they appeared under Actions whenever I opened them, I just assumed they must be saved somewhere.

I’m going to save them to a new folder, totally separate from PS.

Thanks a lot, Paul.

Glad to help.

Just wish someone had told me a year or two back when I learned the hard way! <grin>
