Cannot initialize SMART GUIDES

I’m following a tutorial that came in the CD along with my CS2, when the guy says to activate the SMART GUIDES going to VIEW menu, down to SHOW, nothing comes out of the flyout.

How can I check the smart guides option without going to the menu? and by the way, why is inactive?

Does not show up also under the menu VIEW

view> show> show extras options and check what you want to see…

How can he do that when he says there is no flyout when he chooses View/Show?

How about the old standby "trash the preference file"?

do you have a file open? everything in the menu is inactive except the options without a file open.

Of course I do have an open file…

Regarding the Preferences file… Thanks a lot, not know how but it did the trick for me, now I can see all the missing options.
