You’re going to need to explain that a bit better.

I think that you mean a transparent GIF.

I would imagine that it is a resized (in an web editor) spacer.gif or similar; overlayed on top of the image (also in an web editor).

They are pretty much useless though, because anyone who wants the image can copy it from the browsers cache.

If you’re selling images either don’t have the hi-res versions online, or protect the access to them to customers only.

You’ll never stop anyone who is really determined to download your images. As Steven pointed out, the very fact they are viewing it on screen means the images has already been "downloaded" to their computer.

All you can ever do is frustrate a cyber thief.

The method you are eluding to involves making an HTML table and setting your image as a background, then placing a transparent gif in the actual cell itself. That way a Right-click will only save the gif.

Another way is to use Image Ready to "slice" the image into several parts. Chances are they might not notice until a while after their "image harvesting" spree that they’ve only got a blank gif or a part of an image.

You can do nothing to stop them performing a "screen grab" though, other than watermarking your images with a copyright notice.

Or, do you mean that you have an image with transparency, you try to save it as Jpeg, and are forced to have "copy" in the filename?

Thanks to all the responses. There must be a way to protect. Microsoft (windows or i.e.) should have correct this.

Yes it forces me to save as copy without the transparent overlay. Then when upload there is no overlay for theives to copy.

Al: Re-read posts #2 and #3. This is something you have to do (although futile) using HTML.

Jpegs don’t support transparency and even if they did, (or you exported as GIFs) you can’t save a layered image to the web.

There must be a way to protect. Microsoft (windows or i.e.) should have correct this.

Like I said, it’s futile. Even if you use Flash – which goes part of the way to what you are asking – the surfer can still to a screen grab by pressing "Print Screen" on his/her keyboard.

Protect by a visual watermark. It’s the only way to go.

How do make and I utilize Image Ready Slices.

This creates HTML which you add to your page via an HTML editor. Read the Help files (F1) for a full explanation
