I have a great number of images that I want to add to a specific frame and then save them as a new file.

I have recorded an action that does the following:
1. Open the frame
2. Place the file that I selected
3. Flatten the file
4. Save the file

BUT, when I create a droplet based on the action and I drop a new file onto the droplet, the action runs, but the output is based on the input file as in number 2.

How do I get the droplet to use the file dropped onto it instead of the file that was specified during the creation of the action.

Thanks

First of all, droplets, while cool, are a pain in the arse. They have never been predictable. Oh, once you get your action right, it’ll run, and then it won’t. Long story, but that’s why I ALWAYS recommend using Batch Operations from the batch dialog.

Now that that bit of philosophy is out of the way…

Using the Place command hard codes the file name of the file to be placed into the action. So try reversing it. Open a dummy image and record Place-ing the Frame. Then run it. That way, it’s always grabbing the frame, regardless of the image, instead of the way you have it, which is vice versa.

Thanks a lot for your help YrbkMgr, it worked like a dream.

Creating the action the other way around by opening the file and placing the frame solved the problem 100%.

Being new to Photoshop causes you to think inside the box.

Much appreciated
