At the welcome screen, I get the following message:
"Adobe Photoshop user name, org. or serial number is missing or invalid. App cannot continue and must now exit." I click OK and the program shuts down.
I have used CS2 since its inception, have a valid serial number.
Running windows xp, pentium 4.

You need to reinstall, something corrupted files on your disk.

have the same problem. ive had it forever. it worked fine the first time i installed it on my desktop, but after I had installed it on my laptop and then reformatted the harddrive on my desktop (back in 2005) and ever since then, Ive gotten the ‘photoshop cs2 user name, organization, or serial number…’ message.

i’ve reinstalled and uninstalled soo many times, but no success. I’ve fiddled under the hood and gotten the ‘Space Monkey’ and tried to make sure everything was correct, but still no joy. everyone says ‘reinstall’ but it has never worked for me. what gives?

That error comes up if your registry is corrupted, your disk is corrupted, or you entered an invalid serial number.

Reinstalling fixes the registry and disk.

I downloaded CS2 the other day and I can’t open Photoshop, it gets as far as the Twain portion then crashes and says that Photoshop has quit unexpectedly. I can open Imageready and tried to open ps from there but still no luck. Any ideas on what to try to correct?

Maureen – next time, create a new topic instead of adding to an unrelated topic. In your case, you have a bad (buggy) TWAIN driver installed on your system. You can remove that driver, or disable the Photoshop TWAIN plugin (and always scan outside of Photoshop).
