I’m trying to fade an image from 100% opacity to 0% opacity. Is there anyway to set up a gradient tool this way? If not, does anyone know how to go about something like this?

yes, look at the options bar with the gradient tool selected. you’ll see foreground to transparency or background to transparency. you’ll want to create a mask over the image, then apply the gradient to the mask to show/hide parts of the image.
