I am trying to install the CS3 Upgrade on a computer with CS2 and PS7 installed and running under Vista Ultimate. The install process shows the initial CS3 options window and then the Setup progress window. But no progress is made with the Setup process and the window disappears after just a couple of second on screen. Thereafter, the installation process is dead.

Grateful for any ideas on what to try to get CS3 to install.

David

Have you studied the other threads on this problem?

There’s a host of ideas in them!

dcole, if you are at your wits end, just persevere. I spent a lot of time with some very good Adobe techs that finally got my program to install. It took about 4 calls however. I don’t think that having CS2 and 7 on your computer has anything to do with your problem. I had the same install problem and we slowly got it to work. Did you have CS3 beta loaded? If so, make sure that you follow the instruction for its removal, word for word. And, above all, don’t give up. I was ready to chuck the whole thing but hung in there. Sooner or later, it will work for you.

I got an error on installation but one call to Adobe and she walked me through it. Working great and I’m really liking it. Glad to see they got the print preview working properly.

Thanks. After half an hour on the phone with a very helpful Adobe tech the problem turned out to be Vista. I had to create a new Administrator presence and then CS3 installed fine. I have now killed off the new Administrator and gone back to my original one. CS3 is working fine. One strange benefit is that I do not seem to have to register the program. It is grayed out and seems to think I have already registered CS3 (which I haven’t). Beat’s me.

make sure you go online to your adobe account (create one if you don’t have one yet) and register! that will ensure they have you in the system in case you lose a disk or serial # and will make sure they know you’re eligible for upgrades!

Thanks. Did that.

I can’t get over how much faster CS3 is.

Do you know if there’s a way to set all menu items to show by default?

I just managed it but not sure how exactly. I thought it might be "Save Workspace" which has a "Menus" setting and this allows you to save all the menu items "shown". But if I recall correctly, when I went to put all the menu items into full shown mode prior to saving the workspace, they all seemed to be in this state already. This setting (all menu items showing) seems permanent now and has survived a couple of reboots.

So I don’t know exactly what I did but far be it from me to look this gift horse in the month. David

Try this it worked for me and the installation completed all the way through without any problems

1.Go to "Run" in the Start menu
2.Type in "cmd" without quote marks and right click and a drop down menu will appear ,then choose and click Run as an Administrator
3. While in the CMD, type:
regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\jscript.dll

4. Close the CMD
5.Run the setup.exe again!

It should work.
If it doesn’t open CMD again and type:
regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\vbscript.dll
