I have a problem with the CS3 programs Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. Fonts activated by Font Expert 2006 (http://www.proximasoftware.com) aren’t usable inside these programs. I can only use the standard fonts installed by default.

I can use the fonts in any other windows application, include Flash CS3.

Any ideas for me? It’s been a crashing pain trying to figure out what is causing this behavior.

I’m using Vista x64.

Thanks,

Dave

Fonts activated by Font Expert 2006

Don’t know anything about this utility. What I do know is: that if you place the fonts in windows>fonts then just about any program will pick them up.

That normally works but the surest way is Control Panel > Fonts > File > Install New Font…

Back again here. I can use FontExpert 2006 to install TrueType fonts and those fonts are accessible in Adobe programs.

However, the Postscript fonts are the problem. For example, Helvetica Neue is in my fonts folder. But I can’t use in in any Adobe program.

So I don’t know what to do. The fonts are visible in my Fonts folder and the whole font file is there, and not just a shortcut. Very odd. Is this an Adobe problem?

From the FAQ:

2) Do a system-wide search for adobefnt*.LST files and delete all you find – They will be rebuilt as required.

I am having the same problem, but after a few restarts the font I had installed days earlier start to show. A fresh restart does not then show my fonts in adobe, I have tried. Yet, somehow the fonts were automatically updated in between today and last week. I have deleted the adobefnt*.LST, and that does not seem to help. I have also installed the fonts through control panel and just by placing them in the Font folder.

These are regular ttf fonts I have downloaded from Dafont, nothing special. I have always been able to get my font to show, without even restarting Photoshop, yet CS3 is having the damnedest time…

Try right-clicking on the font files and select "Install".
