Any color picked is grey

I’m using Photoshop Elements 5.0 on Windows and any time I go to pick a color in the palette it is grey. For example, if I picked red, it displays grey on the foreground square and if I’m using a tool the color is grey also. It does this for all colors. If I picked a darker shade of any color, they grey would get darker.

I’ve searched topics but I saw nothing matching my issue. I’d be happy to explain more or send screen shots if I’d help any.

You should ask your question in the Elements forum. This is the forum for the major Photoshop programs.

(If your problem was in Photoshop, I would suggest you have the image set to greyscale, but I have no idea if the same thing happens in Elements.)
