Hi, I just noticed in photoshop cs (8.0) that when I take a screenshot (prtscn) and paste it in to photoshop, the colours are slightly different than those on a web page. I’ve turned colour management off in settings, changed view > proof setup to monitor rgb and on file > new > advanced > colour profile = my monitor, and yet i still get a small colour difference.

I can tell by taking a screen shot, pasting it in to ps, then taking another screenshot of both ps and the original image, pasting it in again and checking both colours. the original image is always correct in the colour picker, but the ps one is usually one digit off on r, g, and/or b. it’s surprisingly noticeable too.

is there any way i can stop this, i do a lot of web editing and getting colours correct, even just visually while i’m making stuff, is kinda important.

thanks.

You can never actually turn off Photoshop’s Colour Management (and really there isn’t any need to).

Your symptoms indicate that your monitor is a little out of calibration.

file > new > advanced > colour profile = my monitor<<

You should never use a monitor space for a working space – monitor spaces are not linear and that is what is required in a working space.

Thanks. How would I go about trying to fix this? I have my monitor’s driver installed as the monitor’s driver in device manager, also have an nvidia card and under colour correction in the control panel i just have colour profile = standard mode, everything else at defaults (vibrance off, bright/cont 100%, gamma 1.0). And I didn’t notice anything like this in Elements 2.0, then again I never tested to see for sure…

in addition to the reading chris suggests, run adobe gamma from the control panel.
