PS not recognizing all installed fonts

On a new Vista install neither PS CS2 nor PS CS3 are recognizing all the installed fonts. Why not?

For example, on my old XP box I created an image using the installed font "Aerial Narrow Italic". I’ve installed this same font on my new Vista box, which is recognized in Word as Aerial Narrow for which italics can be enabled, but PS doesn’t recognized Aerial Narrow as an installed font. I can choose Aerial, select Narrow and click the icon to make the font cursive but it’s not the same as using the Aerial Narrow Italics font.

Do you mean Arial (no ‘e’). This makes a big difference, as Arial is a standard, trusted font, but if the font is really called Aerial, then you probably have a badly designed font, and Photoshop does not like working with such fonts.

I meant Arial Narrow. This is not a style but an actual family name. This is why Arial (family) with Narrow (style) & faux italic is not the same thing as Arial Narrow (family) with Italic (style).
The font can be downloaded at,

Do you have Office 2007 installed? If so, there’s a discussion in the InDesign Windows forum along with the fix for this. It involves finding a machine without Office 2007 and copying the fonts from there.

Somethings up with the new version of that font. I think Calibri is a problem, too.

Thanks for the heads up Robert.

I have a similar problem. A number of Adobe fonts came on the disk for Classroom in a Book for PS CS3. They installed normally and are available to Office 2007 but not for PS CS3. I have Vista X64. I have been unable to find any information or fix for this problem.. Thanks, for your help.

I sort of solved my own problem… by simply copying the fonts from the Classroom in a Book Disk to the Adobe Shared/fonts folder.
