Hi

I have a psd template for photos on a web site. I have other psd’s containing images to be slotted into the psd template.

I seem unable to do this. If I reduce the second image to one layer I find copy is greyed out so I cant use cust and paste. If the image is multi layer then sometimes I can copy but others not.

I’m sure it’s simple but I clearly am not looking for the correct thing in the help manual.

Can someone assist?

thanks

Ian

You have got an active selection, have you?

Even without an active selection, you should be able to drag and drop from one doc to the other.

Hi

This is where I show myself as being one slice short of a loaf but here goes.

I seem unable to find a way to select an item as in PSP or xara I can select everything by ctrl c so I’ve been highlighting the layer I need in the layer panel ie it’s blue but no dotted line on the image!. Hence I get the greyed out copy button.

The help is not very helpfull about this but I will try drag and drop

cheers

I can select everything by ctrl c

Crt+A to "Select All", followed by Ctrl+C to Copy.

And that is pretty much standard in every program in Windows.

But you would be better off choosing the Move tool and dragging the image for the source document window to the target document window. Hold down Shift to center it. Link the layers to drag the whole lot at once.

Hi

I knew about ctrlc and ctrla etc just thought that as in Xara and paintshop pro you would be able to select and copy individual layers.

Reverting to the option to drag into another window, my screen only allows me one window how do I set the options to allow this?

thanks

You can. I don’t know what the problem is.

I don’t understand. Can’t you open two (or more) documents at once? Should be able to. I do it all the time. Open document A, then open document B. Put them next to each other and drag from one to the other.

We ARE talking about Photoshop, right? Which version are you using?

Hi

I’m using CS3 extended as shipped with the web premium suite

What I’m finding is that the reduce window option controlling each document open is greyed out and will not reduce the image to a window which I assume will allow me to see the other image.

I am using suite version so perhaps it’s different?

cheers

Ian. I assume from looking at your web site and the business you are in, that you understand the basics of Windows and how various programs work within the OS.

CS3, as all previous versions, allows multiple windows on screen, therefore I can only conclude your CS3 installation is messed up. Try resetting the preferences as detailed in the FAQs and if that doesn’t work, a reinstall might be required.
