Dear PS Experts:

I have a scanned b/w photo I’m restoring in PS 6. After doing some work with the paintbrush and clone tool I lost some of the grain in the picture–is their a tool for adding grain?

Or guess what ‘Filter – Artistic – Film Grain’ does…
‘Add Noise’ adds noise, which isn’t really the same as grain.

Take a look at Grain Surgery- http://www.visinf.com/
I’m not sure what the restrictions are on the demo for version 2. If it’s time based and not crippled you’re in luck~ JS

yeah, but…. I still haven’t found a grain filter which makes B&W look like Tri-X. Until they make one I’m sticking to B&W film 😉

Guess what the ‘Filter – Artistic – Film Grain’ doesn’t do. It doesn’t add film grain. I’m guessing some techies came up with the filter and handed it upstairs to some desk jockeys who twiddled their thumbs for awhile and decided that ‘Film Grain’ sounded like a cool name for it. It might have a practical function as an artistic tool but I wouldn’t seriously consider it for photography.
