Can anyone advise why I may be getting the new file dialogue window when clicking on File/open in CS2?

I should obviously be getting the Windows Explorer browser window.

Hi Dave, I think this iswindows playing up. To explain, when I tried to open folder comtaining images using the file>open command in CS2, CS2 opened the new image window rather than the windows browser.

I narrowed this down and discovered that it was only happening with one folder of images in particular. This folder had been ‘disappearing’ from display in Windows explorer in left pane but when I clicked on the root folder containing this problematic folder, it was displayed again in windows explorer!! This has happened a few times.

I tried opening the image files in that folder directly with a right click and ‘open with’ command and hey presto, the images open in CS2.

However this has not solved the problem with opening images directly from CS2 in that folder. Other folders do not prompt this behavior in CS2. I am thinking at the moment that the disappearing folder is in some way corrupted.

Not quite saure what to do about it. Have it backed up and have copied it and renamed. This too, has made no difference.

Dave, he’s getting the File>New dialog instead of the File>Open dialog (which is supplied by the OS as a variant on Windows Explorer).

Kevin, I would suggest that you create a new folder in the same place as the screwy folder at issue. Move or copy all files, subdirectories, etc. from the screwy folder into the new one. If opening from the new folder works properly, then delete the old one.

sure you weren’t trying to open a shortcut to a folder as opposed to the actual folder?

Thanks for your posts.

Michaels, Suggestion of creating a New Folder and copying all files to there, and deleting old folder has worked.

I have now been able to rename the new folder back to the same as the deleted on and the issue has not repeated.

Thanks very much to all who replied.
