I am using Pantone ColorVision ColorPlus to calibrate my monitor. I am using Photoshop CS2. I am a Production Artist for a catalog publishing company. We send work to outside printers. I always seem to have problems with blues printing as purples and sometimes there is a yellow tint in certain areas. Do I need to change color settings in Photoshop? How do I stop this problem from happening. It’s driving me nuts.

Blues going purple are an old problem. The most practical thing you can do is soft-proof in Photoshop using a printer profile that matches the press as closely as possible. Then you manually adjust the colors as best you can before getting proofs and going to press. Then you tweak on-press and cross your fingers.

John: The problem could also be using spot colors that are converted to CMYK, that would certainly create the problem you are seeing. I am sure there are certain colors, like the blue that becomes purple, where you would have to designate the actual values rather than letting any RIP make the conversion. While Pantone is a good guideline for color, it does not always work as expected.
