Ok, so I try to edit some text and then I get this error message:

The following fonts are missing for text layer "abc", font substitution will occur.

But the font is installed in my Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

Then after the font is substituted, the text is greyed out and illegible.

Any clues?

Thanks

What font? All of them, or just one? Can you create a text layer with this font (rather than editing it)?

And finally, which version of CS?

BTW, I’m using CS3. Also, when I open the file it asks me whether to update text layers so they can be used for vector based output, and of course that missing fonts need to be replaced. If I click to update, the fonts in certain places are grey and can’t read / edit. Thanks for anyones help!

The font was Helvetica Neue – I re-installed it and now it doesn’t ask for update, but when I click in to edit text it greys out.

Again, when I open the file it asks for update it will grey out certain text layers. I can’t edit text – turns grey!! Help!!!

I read somewhere there are two versions of this font and CS3 doesn’t like one of them.

I’m new to PS, just trying to edit some text; can’t seem to even touch the text without it greying out – not even find / replace text works, as it asks to replace, so how would I even try changing the font? What a crummy experience!

so I change the font size with character palette from 4pt to 8 and text becomes legible… but too big. The greying was because that’s the font color… BTW, this forum is rather lame.

" BTW, this forum is rather lame."

The long-time regulars here LOVE the spartan qualities of these forums. Sure there are some things that could be updated, but we won’t tolerate any modernization that hampers speed. It’s been tried a couple times and it’s failed miserably.

Either get used to it, or not. Your choice.

How have those compared to the most recent attempt? ‘Cause that was one heck of a cluster fubar.

As for Pay, John had the answer to your question on the likely chance you failed to see it.

a pro said it’s not the font, it’s called "greeking" – but the new PS may no longer have the option to change in pref’s.

Does that font appear/work in other apps?

If PS is asking you to update the font, the problem is not greeking which ‘x’s out small fonts in preview, but would not ask to be updated.

Hi,

Yes it does appear, and even in the same file (other text layers). Just plain weird I know. I had to give this to a GA; I’ll post results when we find solution.

Thanks

P.S. I appreciate your comments. Sorry for my impatience, but one would think that with all the cash Adobe makes, they would hire a few heads to oversee these forums. Too many lonely messages and unresolved issues… it’s negligence really!

Have you tried opening a new document and dragging the affected layer to it to see if the problem still occurs. Could be the doc has an issue.
