I’ve been trying and trying to install and re-install Photoshop CS3 (end extended) on my new Killer Notebook, which I use for Webdesign and PC Support. Find it kind of difficult though to give any support to the CS3 software if I can’t even get it to run on this thing.

Yes, spent 2 days thumbing through the forums, documents and anything else I could find online pertaining to this issue. Followed lots of great advice, but STILL can’t get this software to run…other than the windows vista "wait: i’m trying to work here!" little circular cursor to shortly be followed by the "Close program. Close program and search online for documentation. wait for program to respond" notice, while the Photoshop windows insists that it isn’t responding! I THOUGHT I was getting close after installing the newest Microsoft Update Installer 4.5 patch, installing fresh the Photoshop CS3 software and then updating CS3 with the 10.0.1 update patch for PS – rebooting between each process. It LOOKED like it was almost ready to go, after just letting the photoshop program just "do it’s thing" for about 20 minutes while doing other odd tasks…it got to the "Activating Software" window…then Errrrrchhhhh. Brakes came on and it quit responding again. So try try again I did…about 4 more times, before I said the heck with it….and loaded the trusy MX2004 Version – that seems to work with ANYTHING!! Almost as good as sliced cheese, it is.

So here I sit. Waiting…waiting…waiting…for Adobe to figure out what’s up with this version, while everyone else here having the same issues rely on the old trustedd previous versions, rather than pulling what left of (our) hair there is. This doesn’t sit too well with me…especially being a trusted Adobe Partner and all. Oh well. Hopefully one of their tech’s will see this post and realize there’s something not quite right in Dodge here!

Thanks for letting me rant. Maybe you found a resilution to this same issue. Kudo’s for ya if you have. If not…then maybe at least you find this somewhat humorous, being such the pricey software that it is!!
Good luck to you all!!!!

It may not be an Adobe problem, It could be a bad Vista install. I had that happen to me with XP which I had used with no problem for months. Tried to install CS2, no go. Adobe help worked with me for 6 hours with no go. I gave up and re-installed XP and all has been fine now through CS3 (except for bridge) and Lightroom.

Wow! I have the exact same problem. I know what you have been through… I even try to re install Vista, more than once. I have spent an hour and a half with an adobe tech support guy, he was really nice but I still have the problem.

We have one thing in common and I’m starting to wonder if it isn’t the problem: We are trying to run it on a notebook. I am a photographer, I use my notebook on remote location shoots and before CS3, I had no problem with running PS on my older notebook (with Windows XP)…

I really wish someone can help us with that because I’m slowly loosing my mind (and lots of sleep hours I must say). I have been using many other version of Photoshop over the last 10 years and I have never encountered one so difficult to install.

Unfortunately, I did some research and it seams that many of us have encountered the same problems only, I can’t find anything here on the Adobe support forums about it.

Thanks for your help, if you do have an answer, please let us know. Me and the IT guys are working on trying to downgrade my new notebook to Windows XP O/S to see if it is a Vista issue, I feel it’s a little extrême but I’m at that point.. I’ll let you if this solves the problem.

Darn, I wish I had seen this last week before I bought my new notebook. It will not download CS3 with Vista. It stops at about 70%.
I asked on a few forums about Vista and CS3 and had no negative replies. Now I am hoping Lightroom 2 will work and I can get along with that on my notebook. If anyone has the answer please post.
Thanks.

No problems here with Vista, CS3 or Lightroom 2. Maybe there is something screwy with your computer.

Hello. I am trying to see how CS (not CS2 or CS3, but the very first one that came out as CS) works on Vista. Can anyone try the older version on Vista? (I know this sounds a silly thing to do…., but my situation is this….: My PC (Windows XP) broke, and I need to buy a now one. On the market they do not have XP, and after I buy a new computer, I would not have money to buy CS3. By the way right now after reading all troubles, I am thinking to ask the maker to switch Vista OS to Windows XP when shipping………

If the installer just dies without starting, that seems most often to be the Javascript issue. Don’t have the details here, but it’s supposedly a simple matter of entering a string in the "Run" box to get it registered on the computer.

Earlier versions of Flash player is also a common cause of problems. Just remove them.

CS on Vista is hit or miss. Might work, might not. I’ve heard of people running 7.0 on Vista.

I am currently trying to re-install XP on my notebook, since I have a license for it and because all of the trouble I have had.

And Yes I can run 7.0 on Vista, that’s what I’m doing right now on my note book. And I did the Flash Player thing, the clean script, the Javascript and many other thing, Me and the IT department at work and the Adobe tech support have been trying for days…

I run CS3 with XP at work without any problem. Even the IT guys here can’t figure this one out and are suggesting an XP install. They think it has something to do with the copyright protection services both integrated in Vista and PS. It’s funny that it also prevents you to run software for which you actually have a license for… It’s been 6 days now and I still don’t have a running PS CS3. Right now I’m just about to gice up and send it back and willing to try other softwares… Seriously thinking about it….

Hi, freeagent:
Thank you very much! I think you are CORRECT! I was working on my graphic project, then my computer started updating Javascript. I saw that little (coffee-cup like)icon popping out, then a few seconds, it CRASHED!
I was thrown my head to the wall so hard! I was shocked! I somehow brought that up by setting default set up…, then my PC does not find my profile, so logged me in a temporary file. This morning it crashed again! The way I tried did not even work….
I just took my PC to the retailer store…. I paid XXX dollers up in front….. Of course they are not sure if they can fix it….. I usually update Javascript and nothing happenes…. so I never thought that caused the problem…. Oh, I should have waited a few more hours before I took my PC…..!

Hi, Cristine:
Thank you! I have PS 7, too. It sounds like a mis-match for the latest Window version works with the OLD software and can not work with the latest Photoshop CS 3…..?
I asked HP if they can switch the Window OS from Vista to XP, they said all computers are manufactured with Vista installed, so they said I would have to do that at my own risk….. I went to the Computer retailer today and asked them about it, they said it may not be a good idea, because the hardwares and devices for a new PC may not work with XP, since they are manufactured for Vista. Well, then what about their slogan "You can build your own computer—customize your PC." We have to buy Vista when our current PC breaks. We have no choice……???

I’m sorry you’re having issues but that statement is just wrong. The latest versions of Adobe software are the only versions certified to run under Vista.

Any earlier versions are at your own risk.

that’s java. not javascript. completely different despite the name similarity.

You are right Bob, it is wrong but even if it sounds funny, it is the truth for some of us.

New top of the line computer with Vista won’t run Ps CS3 but is running 7.0 just fine. Bought my computer 2 weeks ago, installed PS 7.0 and it works, all of my canon software for my camera runs too but somehow, CS3 won’t.

For one thing, installation shouldn’t be that complicated. I’m sorry but it is a big mess when you have to re-initialise some of the scripts and play in your registry to ensure a proper installation… Adobe even suggests to re-install your operating system… something’s wrong, something’s is really wrong…

Yeah. Those few times I’ve needed Java to do something online (and it’s ben quite a while), I’ve hated to install it. Once the task is done, I remove it immediately. Even my AV software doesn’t like it.

I never figured out if Java is what was causing problems with my system and software or not, but once I got rid of it, my apps stopped misbehaving and I didn’t need the plastic-wrapped newspaper anymore.

And, well, I don’t even like coffee.

Darrin

Is your processor an AMD processor by any chance? Because mine is and a lot of people with AMD processors have the exact same problem. I have found this on the net, and I will try that tonight if I can reach the It guy who’s gone with my computer to try to fix it otherwise cause I gave up… Murphy’s law, I give up and I find a possible solution…

Meanwhile, maybe it is a solution for you too…

Oh! I forgot, follow all of the links in this discussion thread, It helps understand what the problem is and it certainly makes sense with all that I have seen while troubleshooting my many installations…

Oh, well…, Sorry they (Java or Java Script) surely sound alike and I was confused. Is it also related to Java that sometimes the icons such as Illustrator fies, JPG files, and video files are changed to different thumb nail icons all of sudden? Has anyone experienced something like this before? Last time I was working on a graphic program, then when I needed a jpg file, I went to the hard drive to pull out some JPG files. All of sudden the thumb nail marks are changed…… I do not think automatic updates is good thing to do now.

Actually, I just purchased a 17" laptop from dell and cannot get the latest versions of Adobe to run. I consulted my brother, who is quite a computer tech and he said that on the laptops many of the Vista OS are labeled as 32 bit, but have quite a few 64 bit drivers. This causes all kinds of problems when trying to use Adobe software.

He said the only thing to do is to dump Vista, reload XP, and try to find your computer drivers out there on the web somewhere. It would be an arduous process, but worth it in the end.

Can we all get together and just sue the hell out of Microsoft???

I should have purchased a MAC!
