Lasso tool jumps from side to side of the page

This is making me crazy! I use the lasso tool to outline objects. I’ve done this for years and years and don’t want to change. With CS, when I use the tool, as I drag across the image, the page jumps all the way to the other side instead of just scrolling along as I trace the outline. Anyone have any ideas as to how to stop this from happening?
