Exporting to .eps

I created a design that I sent to a local T-shirt printer. They requested the file in .EPS form, so I saved my photoshop document to .EPS. They can not open it, they told me it was not a Freehand EPS? Are there different types of .EPS files? If so, how do I export from Photoshop to a widely acceptable .EPS?

Yes, there are different types. They want a vector EPS. Photoshop EPS files are generally raster.

EPS is a generic file format – there are different flavors of EPS, but bottom line, an EPS file is an EPS file. There are vector EPS and raster EPS, as Robert pointed out.

If they need Freehand, they should specify Freehand and not EPS.

Ahhh, I see. So how do I save a photoshop file as a vector .EPS?

Well if it contains vector elements (live text or shape layers), then save as EPS with the ‘vector data’ box checked.

Chances are there arent any vector elements in this file. If it is already flattened, then there definitely isnt any vector elements.

I would really check with the t-shirt guys to find out what they need.

It could be they dont neccesarily need a vector EPS, but they only have freehand, in which case they could place the EPS into freehand and arent aware of it.
