Photoshop to replace Illustrator?

Forgive me if I am off base; I am not a Illustrator expert. If Photoshop is moving toward creating vector graphics, won’t result in a merging of Photoshop and Illustrator. What advantages does Illustrator have over Photoshop anymore? With Photoshop CS, I am told you are able to export to ..swf. You had to have a 3rd party extension to do that in Illustrator. Why use Illustrator, I am curious?
