I was wondering how do you set the transparency for an image?

I’m assuming you’re referring to using on the web.

Image>Mode>Index Color
Image>Mode>Color Table
Using the eye dropper, choose the color to be transparent Then using Save For Web, save as a GIF with transparency checked.

One caveat. Only one color can be transparent in a GIF.

Wachoo talkin’ bout, Willis?

Did you mean to say there is only one level of transparency in a gif?

Who’s Willis?

Index color reduces the color pallet to 256 colors, all that a GIF supports, only one of which can be transparent. Smaller size files are possible by reducing the number of colors, not the physical size of the image as in a Jpeg. You need to specify the number of colors in the Save For Web dialogue.

Wow, you seem to like making a simple thing really complicated, Larry.

Huh?
You can make any and all of those colors transparant.
