Any recommendations of where I can find something akin to what comes bundled in Broderbund Printshop to use in Photoshop? This would include different kinds of graphics, i.e. photos, drawings, borders plus some templates for brochures, flyers, etc. Maybe I can’t find all of this together, but it would be nice.

Thanks for any advice.

Whatever you do, DO NOT do brochures or flyers in Photoshop. It’s the wrong tool for the job.

Use a hammer to drive nails. Use a screwdriver to drive screws. Use Photoshop to edit images. Use a page layout program like InDesign or QuarkXPress to lay out brochures and flyers.

I have actually had some success at Bill Gates’s house (Microsoft), using their Design Gallery ‘Live’. It’s free, and you can use all images, clip-art and templates for private or commercial use, EXCEPT as part of a corporate logo.

The URL is:

Thanks for the tip on Big Box of Art. It looks like the one you have has been discontinued (at least in the US) but I found it used and ordered it.
Thanks again!

Tacit, I do hear you, about using a hammer to derive nails. But it is also helpful in doing the artwork to have the template parameters right there, for example for a brochure page. Being a total amateur, I find Photoshop’s interface much easier than some others ( for example,Publisher).. It’s probably just that I’ve used it more. I know I know—I should work on this and take myself beyond the amateur stage. Thanks for the nudge!

What do you think about Corel Draw for brochures, Tacit?

It’s usable, as long as it’s a small and relatively simple brochure. For complex, multipage brochures, newsletters, and the like, a page layout program is better.

I use Photoshop for editing raster images, Illustrator for logos and vector images, and InDesign or Quark for page layout and design.
