PS not opening scanned TIFF

I scanned a picture and saved it to CD as a tiff. Now, on my home computer I tried to open it in Photoshop and it said "can not open as PS doesn’t recognize (or something similar)". I then DID open it in Illustrator but I was curios why Photoshop would not open it. Any thoughts. Thanks.

There are a lot of TIFF varients with enhancments/modifications etc..

Maybe the PS code does not contain support for this varient.
