Set the leading to something other than zero.
Unfortunately, adjusting the leading didn’t help. it still stops editing the text when i hit enter. thanks for the suggestion though.
Oh – use the RETURN key, not ENTER.
(or the OTHER enter key if they both say Enter!)
The one on the numeric keypad is enter.
The one between shift and the delete key is return (yes, some keyboard manufacturers mislabel them).

My laptop used to do this- annoying, isn’t it! I’m not sure what it was but clean (re)install of Windows XP fixed it.
laptops can be funny… sometimes you have to hit the Fn key to get Return instead of Enter.
