I want to paint some hair and am looking at doing it one of 2 ways:

1. Painting with a paintbrush at a low opacity

OR

2. Changing the color balance of an adjustment layer to make the color more red, fill the color balance mask with black to remove the tint, and paint back over hair

Obviously the first way is much easier. What is the advantage of doing it the second way?

paint with the brush in "color" mode on the option bar. or select and use a hue/sat adjustment layer with the "colorize" box checked.
