Oversize flatbed scanner recommendation needed

I do most of my work for commercial printing of color and grayscale illustration. The Epson Expression 1640XL ($1649-refurb) and the Microtek Scanmaker 9700XL ($1048)look good. Can anyone recommend either of these, or another 12 x 17 in. in this price range? Thanks a million.

Sidney,

We have operated both of the scanners with transparency adapters and as flatbed…there is no dispute. Our Microtek is now in the closet! The Epson is far and away the best scanner. We do large format printing (art) with HP5500’s and have had great success with the Epson. We have moved up to a large format flatbed scanner (24×36 Colortrac) and now only use the Epson for transparency scanning.
