I recently got a new computer which is Windows XP and photoshop. I tried to save some pictures on the internet and then when I open up Photoshop and tried to open the file, it wouldn’t. Before I uploaded photoshop on my computer, I could save stuff off the internet and it would open for me. But now not only can’t Photoshop open any files up. Windows won’t do it either. This is really confusing me please help!

Thank you So much!

It says ->

Could not open "C:/ Documents and settings/owner my documents/everything-001.jpg" because an unkown or unvalid JPEG marker type is found.

I’d like to know more about this too. I had a compact flash card with a corrupt section of about 20 images. They all have data there, but say "bad jpeg file marker" and will not open on any computer. I tried using several different types of recovery software, but nothing has worked.

any other options please email me at

Toni

Try this (from Microsoft FAQ:

Q. Why can’t I preview graphic files that I downloaded with AOL?

A. Because those graphic files were probably downloaded in a compressed format, which is the default setting.

To turn off graphic compression in the AOL client
Go to Preferences in AOL.
Click Internet properties (or WWW in some versions).
Click Web Graphics.
Clear Never compress graphics (or Use compressed graphics in some versions).

You could also just use Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator to download your files.
