I am trying (fort the first time) to open a RAW file that I shot with my D70. I’m using Photoshop7.

When I "Open as" I get a dialog box that shows the following:

Size: 5416900 bytes
Channels: Count 1
Depth: 8 Bits or 16 Bits
Header: Defaults to 0

When I click OK I get a gray image…no picture. I read the Adobe PS Help file but did not have any success.

Can anyone help with what the settings should be to get an image?

Many thanks in advance.

You’re out of luck using PS7, even the last update for 7 didn’t cover the D70. You will either have to upgrade your PS or just use the Nikon supplied software that came with your camera. Even with CS2 you will still need to download the RAW plug in for your camera.

You need the plugin which Nikon ships with the Nikon Capture program. There is a trial version which contains what you need.

You will probably need to upgrade CS to CS2 and install Adobe Camera Raw to process your Nikon Raw files (Nef). Or you can purchase Nikon Capture or other good Raw processing software like Bibble Pro (I use Bibble Pro 4.8 and it does a great job).

You can download Nikon View (free) from Nikon’s website to convert the files.
