I have a Canon 9900f scanner.

Sometimes it just stops in mid-scan and
throws up a "check connection" error message.

Would this be a problem with its buffer?

Also: when I try to operate the scanner from
Photoshop CS2 I get a "twain" error saying I
should "put the scanner into the Windows
System folder" and it does not say how I
should do this.

Please help.

Sounds like the drive is not properly installed. Did you try removing & reinstalling the driver? Moving driver files around by hand (into the system folder) is NOT a good idea.
