Yet Microsoft gets a new poo hole chewed when they try to do the same.
When Apple has an >80% market share I’m sure that will happen to them,
too.

Yah, double standard. But, then with the iPod Apple should have been getting new poo holes chewed by now!?

Well, you’re allowed a monopoly if you get it by luck or skill.
They didn’t do anything anticompetitive they were just the first ones out
there in a large scale and arguably they made the best product.

I have to disagree about Apple getting it by luck or skill. In many ways
Apple is forcing customers in to things that are just as user unfriendly
as what Microsoft did. Sure they are doing for different things Hardware
instead of OS, but still just as ugly.

there is an ipod backlash
they are getting sued about music rights
bad batteries etc
The idea, by Apple, was masterful. Marketing the ipod was exemplary. The product is far more expensive and unrelaible than many competitors.
a short run strategy as you may alienate longtime brand loyalists>>>users who expect best quality for the higher prices
I don’t know about you but there are certain brands I will absolutely never
purchase after having negative experiences (Iomega) and I am loyal to Epson
because I found them responsive in repair situations.
I was not addressing the anti trust situation MS vs. Apple I find all these "my computer OS is better than yours" "Mac sucks, no MSoft
sucks" to be tedious conversations
My list includes Iomega as well, but Epson makes it too. Their support told me to simply throw away my clogged head printer.
My MP3 player cost about 1/4 of an Ipod Nano of the same capacity. It also has an FM tuner, can be used as a digital recorder, and uses a single AA battery. Ipod is a form over function triumph.
Well, if you go for the cheap Epson’s it is often cheaper to toss and buy new if something happens like a clogged head you can’t get cleaned out. Sometimes it is even cheaper to toss the printer and buy a new one when it runs out of ink. There is most definitely something wrong with this and one a large number of levels.
As for the iPod, it can’t be beat. Why? Because like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dreamweaer it has massive amounts of third party support. Good luck finding another music player that has a decent selection of third party accessories, books and what not. Like it or not this is important as it allows you to get the most from the iPod. SanDisk is a very distant second, but their software, music store and other such things really suck. I had one and tossed it for the iPod. My iPod I use while jogging, at home connected to my TV for training videos, TV shows, etc. I connect it to my home stereo for music and I use it in my car. With 30GB’s of music you can’t come close with anything else and most of that is because of third party options that allows you to use your iPod nearly anyplace you want it.
This doesn’t of course mean I like Apple. No Apple is just as big a monopoly in something’s as Microsoft, just as greedy and just as self oriented. Apple is more like Microsoft’s little sister than most Apple lovers will admit, but that doesn’t change the facts.
