Hi,
I seem to have styles change their look when I merge layers together or merge visible on a whole document, is there a step I am missing to prevent this?
Thanks in advance,

Make sure you are zoomed in to 100% on your screen. If you zoom out, the image may appear to change; this is just an artifact of the way Photoshop displays reduced images. If you zoom in to 100%, you’ll see that the image isn’t actually changing at all.

click on the layer above the effects layers
it will show you a palette with options on how to blend the layers contained within the effect or style
