I am new and I have trouble keeping the clone brush field showing a "circle" over where I am going to clone, sometimes it changes to an + for no known reason. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Check your caps lock key! If caps lock is on it changes the cursor.

If your CAPS lock isn’t on, then the + sign should follow your brush. It trails the brush showing you the relative distance between the current position of your brush and where you ALT-Clicked to set the clone area. The + tells you what pixels you’re picking up to be painted by the brush.

Kind of confusing to write down, but you’ll see if you play for a while.
