Browser previews disappearing

My browser previews have suddenly started disappearing. One day for a given folder they are all there (large files which took a long time to generate) and the next day they’re gone. I have the "save preview with file" checked in preferences. This is XP & CS & high quality previews. Any suggestions? Thanks.
