There were some symbols in the Webdings typeface which I wanted to use, but was unable to.
In the OSX Character Palette I found some symbols in this typeface such as a little "alien" head, a dog, a bird, an outline of a dove, a cat, a squirrel, etc. When I tried to insert any of these characters into Photoshop (or Illustrator — both CS) what showed up was something entirely different. As well, in the Character Palette I got an error message at the bottom which said "couldn’t set the application font. Please set to Webdings Regular in the application". That is what it was "set to".
I can get the characters I want into Text Edit, however.
Ok, I’m guessing this has something to do with support or lack of support for unicode.
Is there some way around this in the Adobe CS applications?
