When using CS2 (and possibly previous versions, I can’t remember) there is a folder titled ‘Updater’ that is automatically created everytime PS is opened. Is there a setting that I can change that will prevent this from happening, or even better, just change the path to which the folder is created?

There is probably an easier way to do this, but this is pretty simple.

Go to:
c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater

run "AdobeUpdater.exe"

There will be a preferences button that will allow you to select the folder of your choice for this function

You can go to Bridge then Help|Updates and it will run the same program.

It appears that "Help|Updates…" menu on any of the products will accomplish the same thing.

It will take a quick look at your versions, then current updates available (a progress bar will appear for a couple of seconds), then several buttons will become available, the most left being "Preferences".
