Removing text from a picture.

A friend sent a pic with a translucent "2006" written across it. Is it possible to remove this annoyance. There seems to be only one layer to the pic, & as I’m just learning about Photoshop (9.0.1), I could use a lil help.I am running Win XP Pro.

Probably can be done,but depending how detailed,it may be quite involved. you can post your pic here via <http://www.pixentral.com/> to give us an idea what you are looking at. i would say using healing brush and clone tools would be your best bet.
