I’m having trouble finding info on this, but the answer should be simple. I’m receiving eps files from an unknown destination, and opening them in CS2 on a mac. They all have a path, "Path 1", appearing in an outlined font in the path window… not the usual bold font for saved paths.

It doesn’t seem to make any difference in how I can make use of the path. Actions will certainly recognize them. However, I cannot identify the paths from a script, and I’m sure it has something to do with their outlined state. I know this isn’t the scripting forum, but it seems I just don’t understand paths… so here I am.

It’s because they are designated as clipping paths.
