SCAN problem and Kernel32 error

I’m not sure this is the right place, but I need some help. I have a Nikon Coolscan 8000 and a PC, with PSE2. Recently when I try to import an image from the scanner, I get an error message KERNEL32.DLL and PSE then closes. Any clues?
