OK Everyone, answer the call! I thought "Artist of the Month" meant anyone who contributed to the Challenge. I realize, in the past, the ones we’ve seen have been exceptional, that is … up to Feb 2004.
If I can be in the group then it’s proof that Grant wants even the lowliest artist (that’s the one directly above me).
I read lots of posts and you can’t tell me there’s a shy one in the groud sooooo Get off your bloomin’ A… and speak up!
Marty
No problem; there is a pretty good artist available.
Name? Grant Dixon!
I’ve been told he has lots of wonderful landscape shots made while canoeing in some deserted places in Canada.
Leen
Excllent call on that one Leen. I can think of none other than the Father of the Challenge that is more deserving the honor. By the way. He is also known as being a nice man to.
Terry
Often we fail to see the most obvious.
Even Grant does.
Leen
Leen,
What an excellent idea! My vote is with yours.
Byron
I appreciate your nominating me but … I must decline, with thanks, as that would be a conflict of interest.
—
Grant
I will try not to pout that Grant has respectfully and ethically declined. What a great guy!
Ba Hum Bug, GRANT! Yes, it’s a must. After all, we ended the year with me. Why not start the new year with YOU. Conflict interest is just an excuse. Make it YOUR challenge to choose a number of your favorite pictures. Now that should be pretty hard to do.
Marty
Go get em girl! I hate taking no for an answer.
Grant, IMHO this isn’t a conflict of interest.
You speak like a politician.
You have waited long enough and I am very eager to see more of your moments of reflection. AFAIK you, your canoe images will be a testimony of peace of mind and I am extremely interested in your vision.
Please, all regulars on the forum and anyone just lurking, support my plea to have Grant as the Artist of the Month. This thread should have over 100 postings with the same plea.
This way he cannot refuse any longer as he is a very social and helpful person.
Leen
Leen,
I’m with you and Marty. It is a good way to start the second year of the challenges.
And I don’t accept the conflict of interest either as this is not an outspoken commercial environment.
Robert
Grant, I agree with Robert, Leen, Marty . .. I am sure others would too but may not have found this topic yet. I support the idea as you do have a body of work to share that others would find inspiring.
beth
I do appreciate all that everyone is saying and I am planning to post my work but like Marty’s I have in mind a very special time. So until them you will have to wait.
Grant
Grant Grant WE WANT Grant!
Give Me a G
Give Me an R
Give Me an A
Give Me an N
Give Me a T
Grant can you hear the cheering?
Julio
Grant, as you seem to be determined to disappoint us, I like to suggest John Burnett. He has shown us some quite interesting images and has a good eye for light and composition.
Leen
Thank you Leen, but I personally think this should be someone with more tenure AND someone who participates in BOTH challenges (which I haven’t yet done).
As I’ve mentioned, I started getting back into photography (other than ‘auto’ snaps) just before Christmas after a hiatus of about 20 years. And that’s the extent of my ELEMENTS experience too! Every time I ‘lurk’ and browse through the messages I learn something new about the program. But I’m still a VERY raw beginner with the software. And still getting my head around ‘photographing’ again, instead of ‘snapshooting’.
There are many here who have posted striking entries in both challenges and have been participating for at least as long as I (and probably longer, but I wouldn’t know about that 🙂 )
Nonetheless, let me just say that I started being a ‘lurker’ to pick up some technical hints, but was soon drawn into participating, because it is such a terrific group of people. It has been a genuine pleasure.
I’d bet that Jodi has a slew of nice pictures.
JOHN B, Grant says over and over that there are no RULES so I see no reason why you shouldn’t be Artist of the month. In a way, that might also encourage others to get back into their youthful hobbby.
Now I am looking forward to that special day Grant has in mind … maybe the day he buys another camera or is nominated for … you name it and he can fill the shoes.
Marty
Marty, Grant is Canadian and not competing with Kerry. You should know that by now. 😉
Leen
Marty and Grant. It seems that no one is ‘ready’ to come forward yet. I also would need a couple of days to gather some brief thoughts, scan a few pics from 30 years ago, and put my ‘gallery’ (such as it is) in order. If you are OK with that, I will graciously accept the honour for this month.
If, however, you wish to feature someone else, I won’t be in the least offended.
John.
PS> If you want me to proceed, should the words get emailed to the ‘Challenge’ address? Should I link to my own PBase site, or provide a selection of photos to you via email?

Oh don’t think the American people are ready for a Grant in the oval … I am a socialist, a pacifist, and an idealist who believes the only reason for a government is for the benefit of the people not that the people are for the benefit of the government. No telling where this could lead to.
Grant

Well, that all seems particularly…Dutch, to me! 🙂
I don’t pretend to have an intimate understanding of ANY other nation’s culture, but I must say that the few times I have travelled in the Netherlands (including two weeks cycling around the countryside 16 years ago), the people were wonderful. And it seemed to me that most of them, perhaps even more than some other Europeans, had achieved or considered it important to have a real ‘balance’ in their lives.
I cannot comment on my fellow countrymen, but I am in exactly the same league as Grant!
I ‘m glad you liked our country. Cycling is the best way to explore it as there is a lot more than Amsterdam. Unfortunately most people think Amsterdam and particularly the red light district is like the rest of the country. Luckily it is not, just like London is different from England and New York city is different from New Hampshire.
One of my intentions after retiring is to explore either Canada from west to east or the Route 66 on bicycle.
Please everyone on this mignificent forum, tell me where you are located and I’ll drop by for a drink. 😉
Leen
John, I am glad you volunteered to help Grant.
Leen
John has graciously offered and will be the Challenge Artist of the month for April. I now have another wonderful artist for March Have to wait and see. May and beyond is open if anyone else is up for it.
Grant
Grant,
I believe Jodi was mentioned as a possible artist of the month. Sounds all right to me.
Robert
Jodi was the second Artist of the Month and while I will be more than happy to have her again, there are a bunch more that should have a chance first.
Grant
Leen,
I’m only a 15-20 minute drive away from Route 66 on the California end near Los Angeles. Let us know if you decide to make the trip.
If you’re having problems deciding, you could always take route 66 to L.A. then go up the west coast (which is wonderful — a train ride is great too if you want to rest up), then take Canada 1 East across Canada.
Bob
I will repost my request for a nice chat as soon as I am starting my preparations. But keep in mind I ‘m planning quite some time ahead. 😉 I still will have to work 7 years from now before retiring. And the first thing I want to do is to walk the 1500 miles from my home to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. I did this pilgrimage on my bicycle in 1991, but after coming home I realised I traveled way too fast with an average of 70 miles daily. Man is created for a maximum speed of 3mph. Next will be either Route 66 (I don’t need a map; I know the lyrics of the song by heart), starting with an extra trip from Boston to Chicago, or from the Canadian west coast to the east coast.(and visit Raymond and Grant)
My problem is I have too many plans. If I won’t be able to realise my dreams, at least I have enjoyed dreaming of doing it. And in dreams it’s never raining. 😉
Leen
Leen
Hey, Definitely, I vote for Grant to be the Artist of the Month.
As far as that goes, he should WIN Artist of the Year awards. lol
Count my vote in.
Lorace
Leen, Yes, I certainly realize Grant’s blood is bright red Canadian. Kerry’s, on the other hand, just might be multicolored. I don’t mind our voting system, it’s just those darn signs posted all over everyone’s yard… such a mess.
Marty
John B, Good! I’d actually like to see every participant on the Challenge have their DAY and 15 minutes of fame.
Marty
